The original members of the Royal Court of China, Click to hear, Santa Claus Is Back In Town
Joe, Chris, Robert and Oscar, reformed in 1992 to
record a new batch of songs. Among these was,
"Santa Claus Is Back In Town."
Ironically the song was
the last song ever played by the original members at a
December show in Atlanta opening for The Hooters in 1987.
The RCC recorded the song in the fall of '92
with the original members of Elvis Presley's band at 16th Ave.
Sound in Nashville, TN with Scott Baggett engineering.
The original Elvis band, Scotty Moore (guitar),
Floyd Cramer (piano), DJ Fontana (sleighbells), and The
Jordannaires (backing vocals), had not performed together in almost
25 years. We cut the song live in the studio in 2 takes. Scotty Moore
played the first lead with Oscar taking the
second. Scotty also
recorded through a prototype Echoplex that had a brass plate on the
back authenticating the fact that it was the 3rd unit ever produced
by the company. The session was highly publicized and covered
by several TV stations. The song was released
to radio only in Dec.
of '92 and received airplay on many country
radio stations.
